Acoustic Alley is an initiative of Frank Bukkems and Marlies Willemsen. As fans of singer songwriters and Americana they lacked a suitable location in the Hague region for such music. They discovered that they were not alone and decided to set up a small stage where artists could give intimate concerts. Theater In the Alley to the Hague Westeinde proved a suitable location for their plans and on October 5, 2003 started the first season Acoustic Alley. Remmelt, Muus & Femke Child and Tuesday October day were the first artists who gave a meaning to ‘singer / songwriters on Sunday. Spread over six Sundays followed that same year twelve artists and bands. On May 15, 2004 Acoustic Alley kept a part of the programming of the Langweiligkeit Festival in The Hague. The first season ended with a concert of John Vester inserted.
Acoustic Alley already knew immediately a good start: beautiful performances, good attendance and positive feedback. Several media (including the internet site 3voor12 and Haagsche Courant) paid attention to the young initiative. Since the third season Acoustic Alley organized a Singersongwriterdag each year. From 2012-2013 season’s Acoustic Alley moved from Sunday afternoon to Friday evening.
